Week 1

David’s Birthday

Last Sunday we celebrated David’s 55th birthday, the year New Zealanders receive a Gold Card that provides them with senior benefits. One of the benefits, free passage on all New Zealand ferries, resulted in David and Sue inviting friends and family to lunch at a restaurant on Waiheke, an island in the Hauraki Gulf, just off the coast of Auchland, famous for wine tasting. To get there we traveled by a bus that David and Sue rented for the occasion. The restaurant, a glass enclosed room with an exceptional view, served food in small but many portions and tasted outstanding. It ended with a chocolate cake with whipped cream.

On reaching the end of our trip, which had scattering rainfall a beautiful rainbow emerged.

Waiheke

On a brochure it describes the island as well known for beautiful vineyards and beeches. They were not joking.

Rangitoto Island

On the way back we passed Rangitoto Island, the most recent and uninhabited island in New Zealand, except for some local plants and apparently some foreign Cannabis.

Cool things we could use on the Dairy

The base of operations of the large animal clinic serves as a farm supply store. Here are some of there products that I think would be good for the UC Davis Dairy.

Teat bandages for the few incidences we had of stepped on teats.

Removable nose rings to stop teat sucking.

Tail paint, for the winter months.

Udder cream in a more easy to access package.

A Sprayer for the liberal application of teat dip, because we will not have the problem of deactivated iodine.

End of the day Friday

After finishing work, we all had a beer, waited an hour and headed home.

  1. Sterling is frightened by the removable nose ring. Might make a good birthday present lol ;)
